Reasonably Fun, but Very Inconsistent,

Gone in Sixty Seconds is a decent movie with a reasonably well developed plot and a great cast. Nicolas Cage, Robert Duvall, Angelina Jolie and Giovanni Ribisi certainly make it worthwhile, bringing their A-Game for every scene and shining in roles that they easily could have phoned it in for, but they are simply too dedicated. They look like they are having a lot of fun in their parts, making it a pleasure for us to watch them.

It is certainly an immensely cheesy film, there is a lot of moments, even entire scenes, that just make no effort to be anything more than light entertainment, which there is nothing wrong with, but there are so many chunks of dialogue that made me roll my eyes with there ridiculousness.

It is very lazily written and really makes no effort to be a different type of film from the works that clearly inspired it. There are loads of cliche moments, as well as a bunch of throwaway dialogue that was clearly never looked over or considered before filming.

Cheesy, but not terrible. Not a terrible movie by any means, Gone in Sixty Seconds does not hit it out of the park, but it is enjoyable for what it is and is worth your while if you are a Cage fan.

underrated brilliance

You tend to get used to the ratings of critics. Yet if I see a rating of two stars, I tend to think, "Two stars, it can't be any good".Anyone who has not viewed this film, ignore the critique, and marvel at a film, which though the story is unlikely[ which may have put "stuff shirt" critics off] its so brilliantly done, its one of those packages which has a team who love what they are doing, a director who attracts a brilliant photographer, which influence top notch actors to the project. So what do you get here, great action great dialogue great direction & photography professional production, the best actors, loving the experience, and the viewer, that's you guys get lucky, sit comfortably stack a few cans and join in on the best back seat driving you ever had.

Solid cars and action film

Memphis Raines used to be a car thief, the best in the business, but now he has retired and living a quiet life. All that ends when his younger brother, Kip, agrees to steal a number of cars for a dangerous gangster and fails to deliver. If Memphis is to save Kip's life he will have to fulfil the contract and steal fifty prestige cars in seventy two hours. In that time he will have to get his old crew back together, locate all of the cars in the Los Angeles Area and plan how to take each one. The cops know he is back in town and as soon as the first car is reported stolen he knows the heat will be onÂ… so he decides they will steal them all in on night!

If you want a film with lots of cars and plenty of action that isn't part of the ever expanding 'Fast and Furious' franchise then you could do a lot worse than this. There is a large cast, which includes quite a few familiar faces, but it is Nick Cage who dominates proceedings to such an extent that I found myself wanting to see a bit more of the other characters. He does a fine job as Memphis Raines. The first half of the film is an effective set up followed by the obligatory 'getting the band back together' as Memphis reassembles his old crew. The action then kicks off as they start stealing the cars. Some of these amusing, others exciting. This all leads to an impressively over the top chase as he tries to deliver the final car before the deadline. Overall this is a pretty solid film; it might not be the best of its type but if you are a fan of the genre it is well worth watching.
